During my equine massage and bodywork practice I have encountered horses with recurring problems which could be prevented or helped by adhering to some basic - what I call - "Horse Wellness Principles". These principles apply to horses used for all disciplines and schooled according to many different philosophies, trail horse, school horse and dressage horse alike. Between rider training and information received from veterinarians, there is an information or learning gap - a Missing Link - for horse owners, in my opinion: basic knowledge of the anatomy and biomechanics of the horse and basic principles of how to keep our horses fit to carry a rider and maintain optimal muscular soundness. Participants learn the basics of how to consider the horse's natural anatomical and physiological make-up first and adjust their activities to the needs of the horse. This means: we need to ENABLE our horse to perform their 'job' as a riding horse. Only if we make sure our horse is ABLE to perform the job without discomfort, can we ask him to perform at his best.
